Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Cataloguing recordings and making them available when requested
  2. Coordinating work in the laboratory to ensure efficient use is made of equipment
  3. Ensuring that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly
  4. Ensuring that equipment is properly cleaned and that chemicals, drugs and other materials are appropriately stored
  5. Maintaining and repairing equipment and laboratory apparatus
  6. Preparing equipment and chemicals before practical lessons
  7. Record keeping, e.g for students’ practical sessions, tracking methods, results, etc
  8. Running trials of experiments prior to classes and then demonstrating techniques for experiments
  9. Supporting the work of academic staff in classes and laboratory sessions and giving technical advice to staff and students
  10. To liaise with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans for practical sessions

Requirements for Appointment

  1. Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology
  2. 3 years’ experience in a science laboratory.
  3. Registration with relevant professional bodies.
  4. Knowledge of quality assurance and accreditation requirements.
  5. Excellent communication, teamwork, and integrity
