Message from Office of Career Service
Less than 10% of TVET graduates secure jobs, which led the Ministry of Education, through the State Department of Post Training and Skills Development, to create the Office of Career Services (OCS) in 2019. At Mawego National Polytechnic, the OCS assists trainees and the general public in selecting appropriate courses and understanding career pathways. In the final year, we focus on key soft skills such as interview preparation, resume writing, job search techniques, and cover letter creation to help students successfully enter the job market.
Our mentorship program invites industry professionals to the institution, giving trainees valuable insights into the competencies employers value and a clearer view of the job market. Additionally, we have established an alumni database that allows us to track graduates and gather feedback through tracer studies. The Ministry recently introduced a graduate database system, which helps employers easily access graduate information when recruiting.
To further support career development, our office uses social media to share job openings and connect with alumni for networking opportunities. On 16th February 2025, we launched the Mawego National Polytechnic Alumni Association, which has already helped many trainees secure internships and employment. We also conduct career talks at nearby high schools, providing guidance on the courses we offer and their entry requirements, ensuring we engage with future potential students.
